Monthly Coffee Mornings

Our Family Support Workers hold monthly informal Coffee Mornings on the first Thursday of each month at The Meadows School where parents/carers/families from both Meadows and Springfield are welcome to call in for a chat, support and to share information/ideas with other families.  Occasionally, there will be a specific focus to these Coffee Mornings and other agencies will also be on hand to offer information and support.

The next meeting will be held on :

Thursday 24th May 10.00am - 12noon at The Meadows School

As always everyone is welcome; we always look forward to seeing as many parents and carers as are able to attend.

If you are unable to attend any of these meetings, Julie or Kieron are available to meet with parents and carers either in school or at home at a mutually convenient time.

Local news, clubs and activities for families of children with SEN

Good news for local Autism Awareness from the INTU potteries shopping centre and Cineworld

Intu Potteries is introducing a dedicated Autism hour the first Monday of each month from 10am to 11am. This was launched  yesterday. (Monday 5 February)

Stores will be asked to turn down music, dim bright lights, share information about autism and helping customers.

Staff at Intu Potteries have received training to provide autism-aware customer service so people know they are in a safe and welcoming environment.

People can also pick up from the customer services desk or download a guide that allows them to plan and prepare a visit to the centre at www.intu.co.uk/potteries

There was a trial run in October last year and it was a great success.

Cineworld, located at the leisure complex at intu Potteries also holds an Autism friendly movie screening on the first Sunday of each month. These are special performances of recently released films which have subtle changes to the cinema environment that means people who have sensory differences may have a more positive experience than they would in a traditional cinema setting. Changes include the lights being kept on at a low level, the sound being turned down and there are no trailers or advertisements - just the film. For more information and the latest films please visit the Cineworld website at www.cineworld.co.uk

Changing Places at Fenton Manor Sports Complex

Fenton Manor Sports Complex has two Changing Places suites available.

A Changing Place is an accessible bathroom facility for use by people with disabilities, either independently or with carers. The toilet facility also has a large changing bed, shower and a hoist.

The suites are in use by customers who use Fenton Manor pool or gym but members of the public can also use the facility if needed while out and about.

You can call and book the suite so reception staff can ensure one of the rooms will be free.

If you would like to book to use a changing place please contact the reception team on 01782 233222.
